Introduction

Jill Chapin is associate counsel with Westside where she practices exclusively in the area of family law. Ms. Chapin has developed her family law litigation skills since her law clerkship with the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal, appearing before all levels of court in British Columbia. Ms. Chapin's strong interest in family law and her knowledge and practice experience in the law and appellate procedure of Saskatchewan and British Columbia provide a great benefit to her clients.

Education

Ms. Chapin is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan where she completed her Bachelor of Arts (Great Distinction) and her Bachelor of Laws (Distinction).  Ms. Chapin has studied internationally at the University of Pretoria, in South Africa.

Ms. Chapin completed her law articles at the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal as a law clerk to senior members of the judiciary. During her Court of Appeal clerkship, Ms. Chapin acquired extensive knowledge and understanding of trial and appellate practice and procedure in a broad spectrum of litigation files.  After her clerkship, Ms. Chapin joined the Saskatchewan Bar in 2009 and the British Columbia bar in 2012.

Through BC Continuing Legal Education, Ms. Chapin engages her interest in business and asset valuation, family dispute resolution and family law contracts.

Legal Experience

Ms. Chapin regularly appears in Supreme and Provincial family court in British Columbia.

With trial experience in both Supreme Court and Provincial Court of British Columbia, Ms. Chapin has litigated family law cases about parent and child relocation, custody, support, parenting and family property division.  She has knowledge and experience in international child abduction cases and family law cases complicated with legal proceedings involving criminal charges and civil lawsuits.
